The Fruit of the Spirit

The Fruit of the Spirit

As I write this letter, we are making preparations for Disciple Camp 2017. We have 23 children & youth, six high school counselors, and 12+ adults that will be at Camp Kinard, July 23-27.

Everywhere we go there are laws and rules and regulations. In Galatians, St. Paul invites us into a wonderful world of freedom (“For freedom Christ has set us free!”) and reminds us that “if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law.”

He then lists some horrible behaviors and then contrasts them with “the fruit of the Spirit.” And somehow this fruit doesn’t sound like laws or even guidelines.

It feels like a Spirit-filled breath of fresh air – an invitation to freedom and a wonderful life.

What was the fruit Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden? I don’t know.

But we do know what “The Fruit of the Spirit” is:

Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control
